1951 Sears Catalog Incubator Ad

We used to order day old chicks from “Sears and Roebuck” and that is an interesting ad, but I’m not going to wax poetic about the ‘good old days’. The simple life when it took hours to do what we do now in minutes. Yeah, not all new things are good things, but now at least we have a choice if we want it.

I’m not interested in going back to the days when it took arms of steel to move the vacuum cleaner, wringer washers were the order of the day, have you used one of those? I have, we had one as a ‘secondary’ machine for large and heavy duty things, and they’re a BEAST, again bicep building and back breaking, fine for certain things, but I want the choice. Food processors, blenders, hand mixers, microwaves, good freezers and decent frozen veggies, air conditioning, power tools in the shop, power lawnmowers, my brother and I had to mow my grandparents lawn with a rotary mower, OUCH!! and on and on… (I have friends who have a tiny postage stamp yard and have a modern one of those, not the crotchety beast from the 50’s. They love it and I agree, but even IT’s a modern one!)

Wow, I was years away from being a twinkle in my daddy's eye.

You are right. The good ol' days.

Here's something else from the 50's. I'm only posting the link cause it's too large for the forum really, and if I shrink it no one could read it.

It got circulated at work for a chuckle, the person who sent it got a different reaction than he expected. Even the men thought it was ridiculous.

Love the Sears catalog! That stuff is fun to look at.

That Good Housekeeping thing...well....ummmm WOW. What can be said about that except, glad I wasn't a wife then! You said "the person who sent it got a different reaction than he expected.".... what did he expect???

I think he thought all the guys would cheer it on, but most of them saw it as just as horrifying as the women did. The instructions in this approach serious servitude, well beyond basic consideration!

woahhh that put me in a different perspective!!!

I was meaning the part where there isnt as lazy of luxuries as their are today....if i had harder work to do i wouldnt have as much time to be bored. I like those manual mower things that you push and the blades move, I like the old way to wash clothes with a thing that looks like a chees shreader (thoughi admit that'd start hurting after a while). I like milking cows, collecting eggs, hunting, and even butchering isnt that bad. I like that simpleness
