1st Chicks And Coop In Progress

I like it!! I'm hoping I can talk my husband into making something similar to that which will fit over our raised veggie beds (each 4x8) so that when needed, I can put our chickens on one of the beds and cover it to protect them (and keep them off the other beds...) and let them peck and poop away. I'm aiming for that this fall when our summer crops are ending.

The netting part you used, is that the plastic kind? Do you know how well that holds up to the sun & elements? I saw that at Lowe's the other day.

Yes, this could easily fit over chicken proof veggie beds. The netting seems to be flexible, but tough. A BIG improvement over chicken wire, IMO, no cuts and blood!

I felt bad but after seeing "Pru" fly from the bottom of the box up to the top of the box (about 3') I trimmed her flight feathers. I felt so BAD!!! But safety first. I didn't want to have to put neeting over the top.

They'll go outside this weekend some during the day in the new run, while we finish up the main house/run. Should be dome in the next week. Will add pics!!!

Well, I added a fresh coat of paint today, painted the 2x2's for the front edge, added the black vent for some light and ventilation, nesting walls are in, back wall all done. We should be done tomorrow, hopefully. Will add a front door frame, netting, ladder and house roost door. I must say I love the opening roof, my idea!

Chicks are all out this afternoon enjoying the warm (70!) spring afternoon. They're really enjoying themselves!

Well, my husband has been great and we're both good with tools, he's cuts, I paint, staple, glue, etc... and my design

I did decide to go ahead and use hardware cloth on the front to keep my girls extra safe! It's such a small area, it's not much $ for the prevention....

I noticed that "Pru" who I thought might have been an Australorp is getting more brown feathers on her chest, so maybe the black sex-link instead. Oh well, nice breed too.
