Chicken wire and hard ware cloth. Do you think i should over lap the bottom few feet w hardware cloth. I'm going to put a two foot apron around the ground for predator s, and then put wash gravel over top.

Chicken wire keeps chickens in, and no predators out. Raccoons pull it apart, rats squeeze through it, dogs chew through it and claws can rip it apart.

Chain link fencing with a 2-3' high ground up hardware cloth wrap around the inside of the pen to keep reach through predations from happening. The top can be covered in field fencing. Do you plan to lock the coop up tight overnight?

I'm covering the top w metal roofing. The birds will be locked up tight in coop at night and out in the run during the day. I bought galvanized chicken wire for the run and was going to put a two foot hardware cloth band around the bottom to prevent the reach thru predators. Do you think i should go to 1x2 fencing (welded wire) instead?

I was going to air staple the fence, then use 2x4 over top and screwed in to the the frame. Still have 48" high 2x6 bands to put up around the entire perimeter to secure the two rows of fencing.

if you are locking them up at night and putting in a band from the ground level up 2-3 feet of hardware cloth they should be fine. If you using the HWC at the ground level there is no need for the chicken wire too. (will save you time and expense)

Thanks Celtic , hadn't thought of that with not over lapping hwc and chicken wire. That would save me.

Well pullets are six weeks and enjoying the new space. Only have landscape stone left to put around the perimeter of the run.
