I am a new chicken momma as of this april- I have six red sex-links which will be 18 wks old on the 5th - monday we got these two beautiful eggs from 2 of our girls

this morning I had a third egg in the coop that looked completely normal, a little smaller than egg # 2 but when I picked it up the shell felt like a rubber ball - I have been reading the boards religiously so I knew we could possible get a soft egg, but I didn't realize it would look so normal and now I've had a few people (irl) tell me that these eggs are still edible - is that true?

thanks in advance for any words of wisdom:)

If you are talking about a shelless egg; then yes some people will eat them.
I don't know this for a fact, but I would think without the shell it would be way more likely to have bacteria be able to get in. I would at least cook thoroughly.

If I find a shell-less egg I feed it back to the chickens and tell them to try again. It is such a rare thing and they don't seem to associate the egg and then trying to eat other eggs because I hand feed it to them(I tear it into small pieces and let the yolk/white drop onto the ground) in the yard. Some people do eat the shell-less eggs, but I don't personally. How do you crack it? nope, not worth the bother for me. I will also sometimes give them to the dogs. They LOVE raw eggs - shell and all.
