SO excited!! 2 days late(hatchery called ahead and said they were delaying shipping them out by 2 days due to weather. They were not in the mail 2 extra days).
They are all in one big brooder now and we will probably leave them like that for the first couple of days unless there are issues. After that we will set up 3 more brooders.. 1 for the bantams and timid chicks, 1 for the aggressive and/or large chicks, 1 for the turkeys, and 1 for the ducks. We have hydro hen(electrolyte, probiotics, acidofiers) in the water, and the food is 24% DuMor starter soaked in hydro hen water, with some egg yolks mixed in just to give them an extra boost to counteract the shipping stress. Their food will not be these starter crumbles for all of the chicks after the first few days.
So far we have ID'd 2 bourbon red(?) Poults, 3 pekin ducklings, and the rest all sorts of fabulous chickens. I think a few polish of a couple different colors, some small banties. This is going to be so fun ID'ing them and raising them up! If you think you can ID a bird in one of these photos, give me what you think they are! This will be fun with all of you, us, people elsewhere online, friends, family, etc all cheeping in with what breeds they think these guys are. My Fiancee and I are already talking about doing this every year for fun, especially once we have kids.
Timing on these guys is perfect: a week ago tomorrow I broke my left fifth metatarsal in a pretty gnarly way while unloading 4800 lbs of kitty food at a rescue we help out when we can, so I am basically couchbound for the next little while. We don't even have real tv(just the 19 horrible free channels lol), so I was going pretty crazy. The brooder is right next to the couch, so now I get to play momma bird to all these little fuzzlings. :3
