I was aware when I decided to keep quail, that I would have to accept that some would die.
This morning when I went to check my girls. Today was the day it was a bit sooner than I had thought but one of my girls was laying on her side and although this is normal for quail she didn' t move as I approached. looking a bit closer I noticed her bottom was a bit wet and messy I gently stroked her hoping the stimulation would encourage her to get up. But it was not to be. I knew that she was suffering and I couldn't have that. Thankfully the other half chose that moment to pop out to say bye as he was off to work. Seeing how upset I was he took over and sorted out what needed to be done. For this I am so very thankful.
Knowing what needs to be done and being able to do it are two different things.
So now I know I am not going to be able to keep my quail for meat, so I hope they start laying some eggs soon.
