Contents of egg. It was frozen. To our suprise, the shell was not as thin and frail as I expected their firsts would to be.

Congratulations on getting your first chickens; love that your daughter pulls up a chair inside the run!

I added two Sapphire Splashes to my flocks last spring. I know that there are no guarantees with hybrids, but I was terribly disappointed that they didn't have beautiful shades of gray-blue feathers like my Sapphire Gems or Sapphire Olive Egger. Cora and Alice are completely white. I was even more disappointed when they didn't start laying in August like the four other pullets their age.

HOWEVER, I was pleasantly surprised when Cora and Alice started laying nice, big eggs in November! Both girls are regularly producing four or five times a week. They laid even during last week's blizzard, so, your girls may yet surprise you!

Welcome to BYC, and best wishes with your girls!
When we got them I told her we needed to socialized them. My daughter is homeschooled so she spent many days in the coop, on her chair, with a chick or two on her lap, while she read her books aloud to them. -It was precious.

We have only one out of the nine that is all white. The rest have grey ombre heads accompanied with various degrees of splashing.

We got our first egg today! I can't believe they decided to start production during this artic blast we are having.
