1st time duck mom 🦆🦆

I live on 27 acres in beautiful new kent Virginia. As a family of 5 we decided to raise chickens for eggs, and to teach our kids some responsibility. I raised chickens as a child and wanted them to enjoy the experience as well! We have 2 barred rock, 5 isa browns and a black Asian. We also have 2 ducks, a white pekin and a rouen. Ducks are new to me, so any tips on raising them and keeping them healthy and happy are greatly appreciated!

Hey there! I’m new to the forum too. That’s awesome, I live in Bath County, Virginia. I’m 3 hours away from you! My name’s Allison 😸

Hey! Welcome!
We just got ducks too about 5/6 weeks ago. They are Amazing. Hilarious. Exhausting. Exciting. Cardio Enriching. All in ONE day. 😂.

Some tips,

I got Niacin Tablets from GNC and I break them in half and put them in a gallon of water. I keep them with water because they DRINK a ton and it needs to be deep enough for them to clean their beaks and nares.

I walk like them with my arms spread behind them and sing them a song, the same song each time to train them where their pool is and their coop. This is the exhausting part 😂

They are very messy, I used Pine shavings in their brooder until this week where they were grown enough, in my opinion and research to move to their coop that is now filled with pine pellets. SO EASY TO CLEAN.

Those are my tips, Hope they help.
Thank you! We are currently dealing with niacin deficiency in our pekin "ducky" started a high dose vitamin b complex today so keeping my fingers crossed my baby feels better soon!
