1st time Guinea mum (almost)

I'm not buying the 30% anymore, (feeding 22%), but I'll see if I can get a picture of the label. Who knows what they're really feeding, and its percentages.

Buff + Chocolate can = Blonde... Buffs and Chocolates... Buffs, Blondes and Chocolates, or even just all Chocolates. But depending on what each bird is carrying for hidden recessive genes anything can/may show up.

ETA: I kept 2 pure Whites that I hatched from my younger light/Pied flock this past season, and they are in with my Chocolate and Blonde flock now (along with some Pied Blondes and Pied Chocolates). So I'm good to go with a new flock, I just need to decide what to do with a few extra colors I have in with them and a few that have incorrect or asymmetrical wattles... I'm starting to get extra nit-picky about my breeders, I'm in over my head now, lol.

I'm going to add White to my flock next Spring. Everyone around here seems to want Royal Purples, but when they see Whites, they'll change their minds!

Hey guys thanks for the support. I don't think I will be able to get any Nutrena as I'm in England but I can find some turkey feed I'm sure. It's all to do with the protein levels in the feed. I'm in day 3 of incubation now using a novital 7. Waiting for my hydrometer thing to arrive so I can properly monitor the humidity. Got 6 eggs in and I'm so excited!! I will candle on day 7 and let you all know what's what :-D

Anyone ever hatched vulterine guineas? They look great and no one has them here in England. I'm trying to find a egg supplier that might be able to help me out. Can anyone tell me Kuching about these guineas or are they the same as normal guineas?

Turkey starter feed should be fine for your keets, protein of 27% or higher is what you should aim for if possible. Congrats on your 6 eggs, hope all goes well

Not many people hatch/keep/raise Vulturine Guinea Fowl here in the US, there's only a handful of breeders that sell eggs, chicks or adults. Besides the huge price difference that puts them out of reach for most backyard poultry keepers/hobbyists (often $500 a pair or more for adult Vulturines), they are supposedly not as hearty as regular Guinea Fowl and typically need supplemental heat and/or heated roosts during cold weather (very prone to frost bite and losing toes). Their nutritional requirements are similar to that of regular Guineas, but I think most that raise them feed them expensive diets to go with their expensive price tag and keep them safely penned.

There are a few threads about Vulturines (with pics) here on BYC, you can do a forum search to pull up the links.

I just bought some Game Bird Chow at Tractor Supply.

Can anyone show me some early incubation candling photos for guineas please. Tried last night and saw nothing in any except spots which is the egg. One did cause me concern though. Egg No1's airsace seemed to move around the egg as I turned it??? I think its safe to say thats not a good sign and not a viable egg surely???? The rest like I said have fixed air sacs but are thick and just nothing there

Words of encouragement would be great

Managed to find this on here in a previous post.

I've tried letting shipped eggs "rest" for 12 hours on up to 48 hours and have seen no difference in hatch rates (so letting them rest is a personal decision you need to make).. so long as they are at room temp I go ahead and set them

So I will cut out a egg box cup and put it in there I guess but how do you go about turning it if its big end is up? Just turn it around or do you turn it from big end up to small end up or do you not turn it that way at all and just spin it in the cup... if that makes an ounce of sense

Don't get discouraged! You're not likely to see anything in a candled guinea egg at day 4. :). If you can wait until day 14 then you'll see something. But even on day 14, don't toss out eggs. Give them more time. You'll see a difference between clears (unfertilized) eggs and fertile. The hardest part of hatching is the waiting :).

Oh, the beauty of an auto-turner is that you put the egg in (pointy side down) and walk away. No hand turning at all. Of course, you still have to monitor temp and humidity, but not turning. The turner for my Genesis HovaBator 1588 was about $50.00. Worth every penny. I don't know what other auto-turners cost. But 28 days of turning x number of eggs 3 times a day was just something I didn't want to do. It's personal choice.
