Some of mine that I have are at day 10 today so I candled and like yours I am seeing dark areas, not sure if they are really growing or not, but will try and keep you updated as thins go along. This is my first time using the egg carton method in the incubator so I sure hope that it is better then last years rate. Most of mine where upright had the dark area near the middle of the egg, is this where it is suppose to be??? A few had it on the ends like in the photos above.

It doesn't matter where it's at. It'll change position depending on how you incubate and what position the egg is in. It'll also move as you rotate the eggs.

I will check it in a couple of days again. I am keeping a blog about the trial with them this year so am going to start candling every 3 to 4 days from today so people will know if they are doing better then last years. Last years hatch rate was 1 in every 20. And I ended up with very few shipped eggs hatching.

How did you take this picture?? What light source? How was It held? What camera? Etc. any and all help is appreciated.

This is one I pulled off the Internet to compare. However I have taken photos just like this, with an iPhone, using a small LED flashlight. I hold the eggs on their sides, because I incubate mine on their sides.

Even if I see a ring I always leave them just in case until I know 100% they're not gonna hatch. I've had some pigeon eggs that I thought weren't gonna hatch but turned put to be nice, healthy babies!

No progress on my CCL eggs, but I have 6 of my 12 BCM mix eggs pipped!!! I'll be sad if none of the CCL hatch, I was so looking forward to a few of these beautiful birds. And of all the chickens I've shown my youngest daughter these were the ones she thought were beautiful. Keeping my fingers crossed.
