1st time processing ~ a womens thoughts

Why don't y'all just sit down at the table at which you are using to process?

Makes for ease in working and lets you be more thorough at the job. I like using the white plastic topped tables one can buy that have adjustable legs so you can either sit and work ,or stand and work, whatever pleases you.

Killing cones are a dream and you can make a few out of 2 gal. bleach jugs that will hold the heaviest meaty bird...simply tack them to a fence or tree and you have an extra hand. No tying the birds to a line or limb or trying to get that head just right between those nails on a stump....they cradle your bird easily while you put tension on the neck for slicing and later when you lop the head off with pruners. They allow bleed out while you are processing one bird, take the bled out bird out, replace with a live one to bleed out and so on, so forth. Makes for speed and efficiency on your "line".

Good job on your first processing!!!

I just checked the birds-- legs are still stiff. Been about 24 hours- glad I didn't plan on cooking them today!

Think our truck tailgate is too tall for me to use, but might double check that for next time. What I was using to skin & gut them on is a small commercial three tub sink. Picked it up for $20 figured would work great for outside use. I think we could put some taller legs on it & it would be better. It only has a small work surface attached, if I run across a bigger one I would be happy to replace this one.

As far as killing cones I have about 10 traffic cones in the barn. I plan on making a few of them into killing cones, bt rope was a faster fix yesterday.

I know every one doesn't find there first time as easy as I did so I was very happy! Think it came from all those yrs of cleaning fish from our pond when I lived @ home. Hanging a live catfish on a giant nail sticking out of a tree & skinning it was something I did very regularly.
