I've done this several times with help, but this was the 1st time totally by myself. I was shaking so bad I could hardley hold the knife. Part of that was one of the roos was really mean and tried to bite me several times as I was getting ready to dispatch him. I only did 2 today, but all went well and these two are now resting in the fridge.
One was 5 pounds 12 oz, and the other 6 pounds 2 oz. dressed weight

Good job, Azriel!

Yes, they were DP, one was a Maran/Rock x,, the other a Blk Aust. I think one of them will be Sunday dinner. The one that kept trying to bite me was the Maran x, so Maran roasted in Teriyaki sounds good.

Good job! The first few I had to dispatch had attacked my baby girl (she's 3 now, was only 2 and TINY the first time!) so that made it much easier for me. I still feel really bad every single time I kill one, but now I only feel bad for about 15 min instead of days. lol. About the same amount of time I feel bad when I kill an animal I don't know personally (hunting.) It's harder to kill the ones you rasied from babies or even eggs, but it does get easier. This is why I got chickens, after all, to feed my family! I did kill an old hen once, but I couldn't eat her. I do think of my laying hens as pets, but not the boys. I almost threw up during dinner that night, but the roos are delicious!
