Which fair are you going to be in? We're going to the Washington Co, MN fair this weekend with our llamas. She should do showmanship this year for the experience alone. What they look for at our fair with showmanship is how well the kid knows how to take care of the bird and what kind of bird they have and some interesting things about that specific bird they brought. For the younger ones it's basic.
For showing the bird in her class the judge will look it over and judge it according to standard against the other birds in the class.
At our fair they provide the cages and shavings for the bottom of the cage. We have to provide the food/ water containers, which she will need to keep taken care of at all times. They frown on empty water and food containers.
We dust our birds 10 days out and then a couple of days out with poultry dust. Also we have to have a pullorum negative test on our older birds and bring the paper work on the younger ones that we're showing. Then a day before we wash our birds and let them dry. Vaseline on their combs, beaks, waddles and legs make for a pretty bird.
Hope she enjoys the fair. It's really a fun experience with the right leaders.
