1st time with a broody chicken!

I saw her out eating this morning, so I know she is getting out at least once. I took the egg she had under her out. She was not too happy about that one!!! Made all kinds of crazy noises when I touched her, but she never pecked at me. The hay she is sitting in is over wire mesh- so that is already done. Now we'll just wait and see what happens!

Thanks guys for your help!

I can't believe they'd pick this heat to go broody in! We were at 110 today, and I feel horrible for the one sitting on eggs! At least the one with chicks gets to move around and get cool in a dirt bath. That cold no-more-broody bath has got to feel at least a LITTLE bit refreshing-- even to a chicken!

She was out for a while today- but back on an empty nest by the afternoon!

This was a great post to read. I am dealing with a broody girl right now! We did seperate her for two days but not lifting the cage off the ground, so I think I need to try that. We also dunked her bottom in water but from what I understand...it needs to be colder water and dunking alittle more than just her rump! :) I am headed out there now to try to make things happen...wish me luck!!

Thank you for all the suggestions and even asking the question!

I'm in AZ and it's been horribly hot. My Easter Egger keeps hording the Reds eggs. She's a pecker but I've been taking the eggs from her daily, much to her dismay otherwise she won't come out of the coop. Once the eggs are gone she comes out to eat, drink, and bathe. It's been at least 2 weeks now and I feel awful for her. She's not laying at all and it so upset when I take her borrowed eggs. There's no cool air here so I can't try that but I guess I'll try giving her a shower, seems like an odd thing to do but I'll try anything.
