1st time with a pheasant, HELP!

I was given a golden pheasant. To me he looks horrible. His color is very light, he has missing feathers, and was being fed bird feed. I read that they need 24% protein in the diet. Any suggestions on how to bring him back to health?

Start feeding him gamebird feed and don't forget they are going into their malting so that may be why he is looking so bad also.

Well I noticed he is losing a ton of feathers, even his tail feathers have fallen out since yesterday.

Yes looks like he has started his molt.He will be back to beautiful before long.
He does need to be on a gamebird feed.

I also agree that he is just "moulting". Which is the correct spelling but LOL OMG No one knows how to spell anymore. JFYI. Just give him time to grow the feathers back.

OMG thanks for the tip! I was more concerned about giving them information that really meant something and after I posted it I noticed it was spelled wrong but LOL

Actually, they're both right (molt and moult). Molt is commonly used in North America, moult is used in most other places.

He's a gorgeous bird. Looks like a molt to me as well.

Will his tail feathers grow back? Thanks for the info, I'm building him a large pen this Saturday, I've read that they do not need a roost, just a ground house. Is this what others have done?

Tony what do you suggest feeding? I bought a small bag of 24% gamebird feed.
