My first five hens were 3 months old and were easily sexed. Now then, this past weekend I couldn't walk away from two swaps empty handed, and so I ended up with 4 older baby chicks. The very nice couple that I bought them from was upfront and admitted they weren't good at sexing, but would try.

I read up on how to vent sex them and to be honest with you, I didn't see any 'nubs' but I'd be shocked if I were right the first time. The white leghorn's comb is pretty large compared to the others....

Thanks for your help and thoughts!!

Thanks so much for your thoughts on these little ones. The only other shot I have of my RIR is this one...

I will see if I can get some better side head shots tomorrow.

I think your leghorn is a roo - besides having a large comb for a 4 week old, I can see the wattles also. Leghorn males grow large combs very early. If it is a boy - you'll know for sure in a week or two.
