Hey y’all!
My fiancé and I just ventured into the world of raising chickens for eggs! I had been resisting a “nesting urge” for a long time, debating getting chicks, and a few weeks ago, we finally decided to get some. We’re in upstate S.C., and my sweet fiancé drove me to NC to get 5 chicks about 2 weeks ago. (He’s been the best hen daddy!) We couldn’t find any chicks locally because of the surge in people wanting them (thanks Covid-19).
Sadly, one of those 5 died, (I cried a lot) and this week I got 2 more chicks for a total of 6! A great start to our little backyard flock, IMO. We got a few EE, a super sweet Isa Brown who is the snuggliest girl, a mystery bird, and an Olive egger! We hope they’re all hens, but I love them all so much already, we may even keep the rooster if we’ve got one! We can’t wait to see them grow!
We have several other pets, and our dogs are in love with the new chicks! They sit by their brooder and turn their heads to their peeping all day long. Introductions have gone well so far, and we hope the mutual admiration continues, haha!
We’re new to all of this, and even with the weeks of online reading I’d done before getting chicks, I’m learning something new everyday. Thanks for the add here, I look forward to getting to know the site!
