I'm having the same exact problem, and I'm beginning to think they are older than what I was told when I bought them. I do not think they are going to lay eggs at all. The only time they seem interested in the nests, is to sleep. I stopped that (DH rigged up doors on pullleys in front of the nests). So, when I go in to shut them in at night I shut the doors on the nests so they will sleep on the roost where they belong. Then when I go out in the morning I open all the doors.
I just added 2 10 week old ISA browns and have them seperated, but on the other side of the coop, so they are in the same building. The older ones didn't act like they were too happy to see them.........I keep telling them that they better start laying eggs or these 2 will be their replacements....lol. Not really, as I don't have the heart to cull. If they are beyond their egg laying years I will live and let live as long as they get along with the 2 new ones when I intergrate them.
I am just exasperated with the older 2. I do not know what else to do.....
the only thing that I have read that I have not tried yet is the crushed red pepper. How much do I add to a 1 gallon waterer?
