1yr old Rooster, 2 month old hens

He seems to be settling down. After the video though, he got a particularly nasty peck in on an unsuspecting pullet...and I literally caught him up in the act. Literally an hour later...with him so content he was falling asleep in my arm lol...I put him down in the coop, and what does he do?

Starts stalking them one by one to deliver penance for his humiliation...from what I could tell...lol.

Bleh.

Are you only feeding fermented feed and only several times a day?
Good to have dry feed always available in several places to reduce the 'resource protecting' issues.
Think he's still torn between being 'attacked' as a new comer and trying to assert his cockly dominance.

Yes, only fermented, and twice a day. They get table scraps and access to the run/compost all day also.

I considered a dry feeder also. I'll have to see how I could do it. I'm trying to keep them finishing the FF so I can gauge what I need to serve. That may not be possible in this situation though.

I agree btw...his behavior is both defensive and aggressive (20 crazy 'too young' females, to one Johnny lol) . In dogs we call it 'fear agression'. It's very similar behavior. The good news though is that if that's the case, with time and more room...he'll settle easily. He really is pretty good natured. Even likes to be held once he gets over being caught lol.

Really if no one is being killed, they are working it out. The pullets do need plenty of hide outs, I am a big believer in a lot of clutter - you do have some, but I would add some more.

Personally - I would not chase the rooster to catch him. Just sit quietly with him day after day is probably best. I like my roosters to be just a little wary of me. But I just watch my birds, I seldom handle them.

This is fun hobby, and I love to watch mine too.

Gotcha!

He's definitely settling down. Moving them all to the new coop is either going to rile him up all over again...or help even more lol. It's a LOT more room...just the coop is just as wide, and 8' longer than their current coop and run together (which is 12' x 24'). The new run is going to be 20' (ish) x 32'. Once I get it built anyhow, lol. First I need to finish the coop!

Johnny is doing wonderfully. Though...he just finally met the 10wk old Cornish X girls for the first time today...and decided (apparently) that since they outweigh him by double...they're fair game for the rooster dance and peck lol.

Apparently, Johnny likes the phat (fat?) white girls!!

Who'd have thought lol??

Here's a quick video after I moved them into the new coop:

I have no clue how quickly Cornish X mature as far as reproduction goes...but man that would be one odd looking bird!!

Are the cornish x broilers since they sure do look like them and I know almost nothing about cornish

Yep! They're actually really calm, very person centric birds (you're their food supply and they know it lol). It'll be interesting to see if they lay.
