Hi,

I'm hoping someone can help me with my sick goose. I don't know what happened, I don't know if the goose ate something it shouldn't. It feels and looks healthy but it's having trouble walking and standing. Drunk like. Now the goose is having spasms. It will fold out it's wings a bit, stick it's neck all the way out and the back legs may or may not stick out behind him/her. Then in a few seconds the bird will relax. I've never seen this in any bird I have. I have all kinds. All the other geese are fine. I thought maybe it ate an over ripened pear but I didn't find any around. I don't know how long this has been going on since I wasn't home today.

If anyone can suggest what I should do for him/her I would love to hear from you. Not sure if I should hold food and water from him/her.

The goose is in my living room in a crate. I wanted to separate it from the others.
Thanks and I hope to hear from you soon.

Chris

Toxin wash could help greatly. You can add activated charcoal to the drinking water (found at walmart, Walgreens, cvs) or molasses and encourage drinking. Use for a few hours (no more than 8 for molasses) and then offer clean fresh water. Toxins can come from mushrooms, plants, old food, overly ripe fruits, ect.

offering mashed up egg yolk, steamed plain oatmeal will often peak interest in eatting again as well. You will want to keep the goose calm and quiet until full balance is restored. A dog kennel is a good resting spot lined with old towels, a swim in your bathtub as needed.
