I don't know why, but one of my quail chicks has started making the egg scream noise. Makes this noise quite a bit too. Aside from being able to feel the breastbone more than I would like (maybe cocci?), nothing else seems wrong with this chick. No injuries, missing feathers, discharge, or pasty butt. I'm stumped, is it making this noise just because it can? Or is it in some kind of pain? Anyone had a similar experience?

If the chick seems thinner than it should, I would start by isolating it so you can observe it better. Is it eating well? Is it drinking a lot? A little? Just enough? Is it pooping regularly? Does the poop look normal?

These things can help us help you. :)

It seems a little more lethargic than the other chicks and its feathers look puffed up too. It shuts its eyes while standing puffed up. It seems to poop a normal amount but I see blood in the poop. I don't know about eating or drinking. I decided to observe it for a few hours and saw the bloody poop. I'm pretty sure it has cocci. I banded it, put it back with the others, and am treating the whole chick flock with Corid now.

I hope that takes care of it! It's good that you caught it early.

I went to check on the chick this morning and he's lost a frightening amount of weight. Is there anything I can do to help him? The other chicks are fine.

Separate it from the others. See if you can get some Save-a-chick or Nutri-drench into it. It might not make it, but those are a couple of things I would try.
