2/19 Meyer Shipment, USPS tracking stuck at "Pre-Shipment" status

Thanks, all. I called the post office yesterday to give them a heads up, but checked again today and heard that a truck comes at 4 or 5 am tomorrow. Ugh.

I realize that it's only 36 hours if it comes then, but I'm still nervous. We're only 100 miles from the hatchery, so I'd hoped for sooner. (I do realize that the mail system doesn't eork in such a way that shorter distance always = shorter time. But a girl can hope!)

At this point, I'm almost 100% sure that the tracking is just wrong. Now to just anxiously await!!
At that distance, I probably would have ordered for pickup.

Not that I need to justify my family's decision to have them mailed, but for circumstances that I won't get into here, it's what we had to choose.

My first choice was pick-up, too.
Not judging :) I know it isn't always possible. I once drove to a hatchery about that far way, if I had to do it this year, I would probably get them shipped. I'm pregnant with baby #2 and a trip like that is exhausting to me.

The brooder (a repurposed 4x8 elevated planter my husband built years ago) is all set up and ready to go. The post office worker said they get a truck in very, very early (before they even get there) and she bets the chicks will be on that truck. That isn't particularly comforting, but it's out of my hands I guess.

I shall eagerly await the call in the morning! And post pics, too.

Oh, and tracking STILL says "Pre-Shipment" status. So that's a joke.

A bit off topic kinda. Why is USPS the only form of shipping chicks,
We ship tortoises FedEx next day. We also can ship delta cargo same day and then there is a reptile shipping that is used a lot. The later wouldn't ship chicks but why wont the other two options ship them?
The mail service in most areas of Chicago stinks. I would be contacting my Alderman by now to look into the whereabout of my chicks if this were happening to me. You probably dont have Aldernan where you live but I would be going totally nuts on someone within USPS.
Sure hope all turns out well.

They are here! Got the call from the post office this morning at 6am. Took the day off work and ran to get them.

All 16 are alive, and all seem very healthy. They are mostly very curious about me, and don't show much fear, as my TSC chicks 2 years ago did.

Now to figure out what breeds (I got a rare and a brown egg assortment). I think I've identified - from leg bands - a cream legbar and a jubilee orpington (pics). :D

I am over here at my house losing my mind because my chicks were shipped yesterday and the USPS shipping status still says "pending package acceptance" at the origin facility. I know that can't be right ... I halfway thought I might hear during the day today that the chicks had been delivered, but the post office person I talked to said that chicks always arrive early in the day and that if they're not here by now, they're not coming today. I don't know why that makes any sense ... but that's what she said. I am so glad to hear that your babies arrived safe and sound despite being a half day or so later than you had expected. I hope I can tell the same tale whenever my little peepers get here!!!
