There are only 86 days until Spring ... but who's counting?Anyone else excited about the winter solstice being here and gone as of yesterday? Soon enough we'll be getting more daylight hours and egg production will pick up.
11 today out of 44 hens/pullets, mostly brown/cream eggs which feels weird considering I have more colored layers than non colored layers. I think my handful of late summer broody-raised pullets will carry me through the winter with fresh eggs. A few of my older pullets are also doing well with the egg laying, my buckeye, leghorn, and sapphire sky being the most consistent. I'm starting to get a little antsy, waiting for spring to come around so I can get back to raising chicks and managing my flock (which are doing great this winter so far).
... Me! ...

Thabks, that helps! My 2 year old Marans (Cuckoo and Blue Cuckoo) lay smaller and paler eggs than normal when they start up laying again. Usually by their third egg everything is back to normal again. It’s hard to imagine an Australorp laying a copper egg, so I’d guess it’s your Marans hen.
Do you have ticks? Ticks are the reason I got chickens, eggs were a blessed benefit.36 yesterday, from the store.Haven't got an egg for 2 months due to short days and all the girls molting. My wife is starting to ? why we have them.
