Hello,
I have a 2-3 week old chick who stopped standing yesterday. Yesterday afternoon she was fine and acting just like the others (I have 11 more chicks from the same place) and last night she was getting walked on by the other chicks. I have separated her from the rest but all day today she has not walked either. I noticed she did move towards her food more and she had ate today. Does anyone have any ideas on why she just stopped walking and standing all of a sudden? None of the others seem to be affected.

Exposure to a toxin can do that. But stress and shock can also cause weakness that mimics paralysis.

While you need to watch the others for similar symptoms that would signal a toxin exposure, I suggest treating the chick for shock with some warm sugar water with a pinch of salt.

It may also be this chick isn't competing effectively for food. Give it some soft boiled egg and see if that helps revive it along with the sugar water.

Possible toxin sources are moldy feed, carbon monoxide from machinery running nearby, insecticide and other petroleum distillates. Also, unfiltered well water high in iron can bond with bacteria and cause serious problems with chicks.
