I recently purchased chicks on 3/27. They are developing tail feathers, more wing feathers and some are starting comb development. Any ideas on genders?

How much should I handle them or what steps should I take to make sure they are friendly as they get older?

Consistency is key. Hold them often but for short periods of time, like 30 seconds to a minute. When they get a little older it is okay to hold them for longer, but right now they need to be kept warm.

Also give them small treats. The way to a chicken's heart is through their stomach.
Ordinary chick starter, with water added to make a wet mush, is a great treat.
Most chickens seem to love it.

It can be unhealthy for chickens to eat large amounts of most other treats, because they don't have the right balance of nutrients. But of course that is not a problem when the "treat" is their normal chicken food!

I gave my permanent flock minced carrot or tomato, sometimes scrambled egg (especially if anyone was looking 'suspicious') about a tbsp split between 15 chicks (they had grit access of course). They went from super timid to standing in my hand real fast.
