Hi everyone,
2 of my five week old chicks have a cut in between their nostrils, and I could use some advice. I discovered the blood yesterday night, and I promptly applied some cornstarch to the wounds to stop the blood. I didn't want to separate them, but I did and they are very lonely. I wish that they could see each other, but my emergency area is a cardboard box with a divider in it. They can only hear each other, poor lonely things. They peeped like crazy until I turned out the lights.
They each have a makeshift feeder and waterer made of small dishes, but I have not seen them use them. I have given both chicks 2 stuffies each in hopes of providing comfort, and I have heard that a mirror would be good to have too. I am hoping to purchase a wire dog crate today, so that they can see each other.
My questions are:
What can I put one the wounds to help them heal?
When can I put the chicks back with their "sisters"?
How long do they need to be separated?
