Think I am going to switch to carton hatching or just leave on screen in LG. 2 chicks died during zipping on the no slip drawer stuff sounded like a great idea so i tried it/eggs stay in place and chicks walk much easier but both chicks that died where in the middle of zipping and heads turned to the bottom of zip on non slip surface and drowned in very small amount of yolk. thats my hypothesis anyother ideas?

I recently lost 9 of 11. For the first time I used an egg turner. I took the turner out and laid the eggs on their sides at the end of incubation. It seems to me that is when 8 died. They had not absorbed the yolk. 2 hatched and are doing well. 1 completely zipped & never came out. I kept watching & checking & noticed no movement at all for quite some time. The chick had died.

I don't know why for sure but I wondered if they may have become disoriented as to their position or may have drown. I took them out of the turner on Thurs morning thinking late Sat was hatch day. 3 were pipped Fri morning & 2 hatched late Fri night. I hear they should not be moved or turned the last 3 days.

I will start them in the turner in the morning. I plan to gently move them into an egg carton
either very late on day 17 or early on day 18.
