A little back story, momma hen was sitting on 5 eggs, all but one hatched. The next day I go check on them and the last egg is struggling to hatch. I help it out and it hatched. That night I put it under momma hen. Everything seemed fine the next day. Chick is now 2 days old. I check on them all. As i moved momma I noticed that chick is under momma and has her head pecked at pretty bad.
I have isolated the chick and I am treated the wounds.
Questions:
1) How long do I keep the chick separated?
2) Will I have to raise the chick in a brooder?
3) Does it need another chick with it when it heals?

Not sure how to care for the chick once it heals.
Thanks Everyone

Pictures would be helpful. My chick had the same thing happen and he died within 48 hours. Yes, raise the chick in a brooder. Do not get it a friend now unless you can seperate them so they cannot hurt each other. Another chick will peck his head. If you have electrolytes I would put them in his water and I would give him mash. Is he perky or just laying there? If he is not eating and drinking give him Nutri-Drench if you have it. If not give him sugar water. Wash it and keep it moist with Pain killer free Neosporin. Answers to your questions:
1. Until it heal. I would keep it seperate until it gets old enough to integrate into the flock.

2. Yes.

3. Yes unless you have all day to spend with it. At this point you can get it a mirror or stuffed animal to keep it company.

Is it better or worse than this?
