I received my day old chicks yesterday. All were so healthy looking, active, eating and drinking. Then, tonight, one of the little girls just seemed to crash. Lethargic, just wants to sleep under the heat plate. I have dripped electrolyte/probiotic/ honey water. No change and seems to be getting worse.
Anything that I am missing? I am just sick to my stomach.

On top of it, 2 others seemed to have very hard, swollen cops. Acting completely fine. Is it normal to be so big and hard at night?

Phew, rough day:(

Give sand or chick grit in a small bin for free choice is the crop emptying by night?

Give suger water saved me my chicks for this year.
I tried electrolytes but it failed suger water saved the little chicks!!!!!!!!!

One more thing you can try. It saved a new chick of mine a little over a week ago.

Sometimes these little gluttons eat too much too fast and don't drink enough water so they end up backed up either in the crop or intestine. I take coconut oil in its solid form and pry the tiny beak open and place a tiny bit of solid oil on the tongue. It will automatically swallow. Try to get about half a teaspoon of oil down it.

It helps to have another person help with this effort, although I manage to do it with only my two hands. After the oil goes in, massage the tiny crop for about five minutes very very gently in a circular and upward motion.

In about twelve hours or less, if it's constipated, you'll see it's passed a huge turd. It should be back to normal in about two days time. I advise giving a drop of Nutri-drench each day until the chick is out of the woods.

I would get the grit out of there for now, and never add it to the food. The babies are on chick feed, not whole grains, right? Then they don't need grit at this time. A little sugar water, and plain water offered separately, so there's a choice. Hope things are improving! Mary
