I have a baby chick with a bulge over her vent. I tried using a q-tip with Vaseline to push it back in but I wasn’t successful. What else can be done?

Try to wash off the poop from the vent with warm soapy water, but dry the chick well and blow it dry if necessary. Keep the prolapse moist, so that it doesn’t dry out until it can be pushed back in or it goes in on it’s own. Hydrocortisone cream or vaseline is good. How is the heat in the brooder? Too hot can cause constipation. Has the chick has pasty butt? If constipated you can give the chick a few tiny pieces of slightly chilled coconut oil, or add a little olive oil to some chick crumbles or soft egg.

Thank you for your suggestion. Today I soaked the chick’s butt and was able to get the poop off. While doing this I realized that the prolapse is not in the vent but well below that area. I don’t know what is causing it but I dried the chick and put Vaseline on the prolapse. I will continue this and hope for improvement.
