We got 4 chicks in January- 2 Salmon Faverolles and 2 Tolbunt Polish 13 weeks old this weekend. We let them out in their coop when it's warm enough and keep them in the garage when it gets too chilly. We're in Denver, so the temps have ranged between 25 and 70 over the last few weeks. We lost the first Polish two weeks ago - they were in the coop, every one seemed fine, and then one dead in the morning. She was definitely a runt - full feathered but smaller then everyone else and just a little 'off' - I was sad, but not super surprised - she never seemed to thrive like the other three. Wasn't too cold that night - saw some diarrhea near the poor chickie and we cleaned out the coop completely.

fast forward to this week, chickens are 13 weeks, but in the garage the last few days because of the weather. Pick up the other Polish Thursday for a snuggle and seemed fine. When I checked in on her yesterday morning fine. Daughter and husband each checked in a few times - last night I notice she's lethargic, pick her up, she's had diarrhea and her little vent is swollen. Bring her inside, clean her up, and set her up inside for the night - didn't make it.

we moved the other two birds into a new clean enclosure when we brought her in.

what's going on? Is it cocci that I just didn't catch quick enough? I feel horrible that we couldn't keep the girls alive and am super worried about the other two now.

we also have 2 8 week chicks that are still separated.

we're still feeding them medicated starter, have grit and have given them some scratch for treats in the last few weeks.

i need advice to keep everyone else alive!

I’m so sorry you lost your babies :hit . I haven’t experienced cocci with my chickens, but maybe you could treat them just in case? Definitely search in these forums for info about treatment (I don’t think it would hurt but again, I could be wrong).
