Recently i bought a RIR that i was told within 3 weeks of receiving i would be getting eggs from. I got her last thursday and she layed her first egg saturday. since then ive gotten an egg sunday, monday and today as well but today i got 2. I checked before i went to work in the morning and there wasnt a single egg at 630 am. when i got home at 430 pm i had 2 eggs. She is the only chicken in the coop so it was not another chicken and she has been normally laying around 1030 am. I know she layed those 2 eggs today while i was at work but my question is did she lay the 2 eggs at once or did she lay the one egg and have a super fast ovulation cycle? just curious if anyone woulkd have any wisdom on this subject thanks.

I have hens lay double eggs before. I have no idea why, but I have had a hen not lay on thursday but lay 2 on friday.

Do the 2 eggs look the same? Is it from another kind of bird? Could it have been an egg that was hidden at some point then came out of hiding?

definantly not a hidden egg or from another bird. looked this morning pretty well and changed out the cedar chips in the nesting box. and it was not from a diff bird it was all but identicle to the ones ive gotten previously and she is the only bird in the coop

It does happen once and a while that they lay two eggs in one day. More often to new layers still working the kniks out of the system.
