*2* eggs per day per chicken??

Once, unfortunately for a sweet fun loving hen named Betty, 4 "eggs" were laid in one day by her. They had backed up due to the first one in line being malformed and once that came out, the others followed quickly on its heels (1 more malformed- a rubbery collapsed twisted shell with no content - and one soft shelled and one hard shelled). In the ensuing months, she continued to have problems and eventually infections that at first responded to antibiotics and later did not and then sadly, I lost her shortly after a surgery intended to relieve her of the problem (hysterectomy). But anyway, long story short, it is most certainly possible for a hen to lay more than one egg in a day. And hopefully, not necessarily because of a problem like Betty's.

Okay, I'll chime in on this one with a "how about this?" idea. If a chicken lays a double yolker it would be the same concept as identical twins, right? So maybe having two eggs in one day is like having twins, just fraternal ones instead.
Anyway, I'm glad you're getting eggs. Mine are soooo ready, but nothing yet. Grrrrr. The waiting's just so hard.....!

I only have two hens and some days, I get three eggs between the two, and it seems they make up for when I only get one egg between them. Go figure. I get ALOT of double yolkers that seem to make up for the 1 egg between 2 chickens that day. And since May I've had 17 double yolkers, be glad for what you get!

Maybe it's a chicken secret, heck we don't know much about how people work let alone chickens.

Sorry, this is a little off topic, but I was wondering, with all of these double yolkers around that would presumably make identical twins, has anyone ever seen or heard of two chicks being born from the same egg?
I would make sure these precocious layers have plenty of oyster shell! All of that egg-making has to be pretty taxing.

I havent had two eggs in one day yet,but have been keepin a journal of my lil red sex link, who just started laying July 21, bless her heart at 16 weeks. She is popping them out every 18 to 22 hours.

Not an expert, me, but I think my Goldie just gets backed up. Some days she skips and lays two the next day; some days there's an extra egg even when she doesn't skip.

Also, I thought chickens usually laid their eggs in the morning, but not our Goldie. She's an afternoon layer, between three and six - reliably. Anyone else have birds who do this?

Also, I read that an Orpington would lay maybe two eggs a week - not seven! Baby Girl's throwing my plan off. When the Red Stars start laying, I'm gonna be in trouble! I plan to ask if anyone at the local farmer's market would like to sell some eggs.

I read in several places that they might produce 1-3 eggs per week, based on annual averages. BYC here listed 2-3 possible. But hey, I don't mind! It's terrible fun to find her eggs. She and her Silkie Roo have a Chicken Club built for 4-6 roommates. She uses the two upstairs nests: one to sleep in and the other to lay her eggs. I keep reading about having to clean the eggs, but she's so tidy I've never had to. They're getting bigger, too. Has anyone else noticed that their eggs seem to get bigger as they mature a little?

My hens lay at different times of day. I've also had one(a leghorn) lay two eggs in 24 hours on occasion.
