My Buff Orpington, Buffy, laid two eggs today. No other hen lays that color eggs. I checked eggs this morning - so I know it wasn't there this morning.

Sometimes a hen's internal laying factory messes up and starts a second egg less than a day after the last one. Often, but not always, the shell gland has not had time to prepare enough shell material for the second egg so you might get a thin-shelled or soft egg. I wouldn't worry about it, especially if she has not been laying that long.

Good luck!

I've had the same issue a few times with my birds also, they are all new layers and every now and then I find 2 eggs on the poop board, they must be laying at night and plop. It takes mine a day or so to begin laying again, so you are not alone, it's concerning but eveyone here says it's normal to have it happen, matter of fact one of my Delawares laid one good sized egg and 1 under developed egg on the poop board while sleeping last night????
