hubby was right no more sleeping with Ducks and getting worn down, I think little Pandora knew that so she laid her head down to sleep and she's got Tinkerbell's giraffe, all is well..

Good morning my dear sweet wonderful friends :)
I HAVE AN EMERGENCY AND NEED ADVICE ASAP
I had a call duck egg develop a day or two after the ones in the Bator. Anyway, I candled it last night and something just didn't look right, the duckling was internally pipping but it just looked all wrong, I can't explain, but I just know at this point if something is wrong. I put the egg back and went to bed deciding maybe I was wrong. Candled the egg this morning and sure enough, it's pipping in the wrong end, and struggling , I don't know what to do? I'm going to shoot Ravyn a message but I'm afraid she's still asleep, so I'm getting a backup plan in order, I am not sure what to do about the breech baby :(

If you think it's struggling, and can tell about where the bill is, make a hole for the bill so it can breathe.

I've never tried this, but would if needed.

It would be a good idea to peel of just a little shell to make sure it can breathe, but then while it is soaking up the rest of the yolk/blood you can leave it alone. I don't have experience with ducks, but I know chicks can hatch successfully when they pip on the wrong end, though often they do need a little help.

Later, when it is ready to zip, keep a close eye on it and if it is struggling/not making sounds/etc. you might have to assist.

You're doing great! Hang in there!

I went on and opened up a safety hole for it, and of course my hand slipped and created a larger hole than I wanted :(
The duckling looks OK, but is not ready at all, this egg was the smallest one so I just knew I would have issues with it :(
It's back in the Bator so hopefully it will continue to thrive. Thanks for the fast response! I'm a nervous wreck and have Pandora going into absolute fits when I am not in her sights..Geez oh Pete's
