Hi, we got two geese in May. We weren't sure what breed they were nor sex. I was wondering if anyone could help us know maybe their breed and sex? I'll post a picture of them when we got them and a picture of how they look right now. Thank you in advance!

White Chinese goose and African goose, perhaps?
I’m not good with sexing geese, but I do know males of these breeds will develop more prominent knobs on their bills as they age and have a more defensive stance / more defensive behavior.

My African was hatched the very end of March...I thought he was a female up until last week. Because everyone (not on here) told me he was a she due to not a huge knob on the head.....well he has been surfing on everyone in the kiddie pool and has turned into a bossy boss (not with me) and my ducks (especially one of them) are swoooooooning all over him. I do think they mature in a couple years and the knob will continue to grow.

Hopefully someone with WAY more experience than me responds.

Renee

They are both super mellow, and have about the same personality. They don't attack they just follow us around and stuff.

From what I've learned the best ways to identify a gander from a goose is their necks and their honks? Well aside from the 100% fool proof way of waiting till their mating season lol

Ganders usually have longer necks and are bigger. Their honks are said to be louder and slower paced than a female.

Were still newbies to but heres pics of our two geese last year, this was before they turned one and mating season happened. Personality really has nothing to do with it. Our male (Toulouse) the dark one was super sweet while our female (Buff American) the light one was standoffish. After mating season their personalities have completely switched.

I personally think its best to wait till mating season. Because only till then can you just assume based on your gut and what others say lol
