Well, I found three more girls this morning, plus a big pile of feathers I can only assume is the remains of our EE roo.
There were 2 chicks dead in the brooder this AM. I don't know if it was the stress of everything yesterday or what.
My husband was up padlocking everything this morning and told me that when these chickens are gone, there will be no more. He's even threatening to find homes for them all.
He's just upset because our 5 year old is so upset. I'm hoping it all blows over. He doesn't want me to sell eggs out the back door anymore, either. So, I'll have to let all my steady egg customers know if he really pushes that one. Our eggs make us close to $100 a month!! I can't see how he'd want to lose that money.
Anyway, keep your fingers crossed for my hatch. I got 30 eggs in the 'bator due Monday the 8th. Pray they'll all hatch and be HENS!!!
mangled, I'm so sorry for your loss. I can see your husbands point. You don't want to get your son unset after everything he's has been through. My fingers are crossed for your hatch.
I now how you fell my husband says the same thing after we had our racoon raid I started with 16 guineas and 26 baby hens they havent got any of my hens but they love my guineas Every time I lose one my husband goes into this rage and tells me there wont be any more Try to hang in there I know it is hard my husband sets on his duff and I fix the pens what with that I heard the same thing today after I woke him up to kill a coon in the guinea pen I dont think men have the same felling as women do Good luck I have to get up earley to catch the coons in the act
I am sorry for your loss......it is much easier to understand when it is an animal, then a person. I dont know how people can steal or destroy other peoples property, and think its fun. Losers. I hope you can find more of your girls, and I hope your 5 year old is OK. What a hard thing to go through. Hugs to you guys.
I'm so glad you found some of your birds. Some people have no respect for others' property. Kids really don't think of the consequences of their actions. My 17 year old daughter had a friend that started hanging around with the wrong crowd, long story short, they broke into a house and the man that lived there, protecting himself and his family, shot and killed him. Tore everyone up. Good luck with finding these kids. Makes you wonder where their parents are and if they are aware, obviously not, of the whereabouts of their out of control children.
Mangled, I am sorry you have lost so many of your chickens. I hope you find more of your lost hens. So sorry about our EE roo.
Ironically the predators behind this act KNOW better. But the ones that are just acting instinctually ie animals get the usual message on this thread S.S.S ?
I hear teenagers make GREAT fertilizer for maple trees!
About a month ago, before I left for college, my brother found some punk teenagers rooting around our woods. My brother, being concerned for the chickens, and a former member of the Army, went out there and told them to get lost or he'd be reporting them.
It seemed to work, they scurried off and from what I hear he hasn't seen them back since.
We had just build a new chicken coop, and it wasn't padlocked yet. God only knows what those stupid brats were up to. I knew who they were too. Neighborhood trouble-makers.
I hope the kids are charged somehow.
Hope the rest of your feathered kids are ok and come wandering back home!
