2-liter bottl chicken waterer

I bought some of the red cups from beaktime too. I thought I would just drill a hole in a 2 liter bottle cap and stick it in there. Will that not work? I bought the cups from thier ebay store so didn't see the 2 liter bottle with the little hose in it until I was looking at thier site. Is that hose necessary? I have nipple waterers made from 2 liter bottles that work just fine but I thought they might like the cups better. The bottles have a couple of holes drilled in for air which I guess makes it flow bettler.

Do you have a picture or a link to look at ?

Do any of you know where I can buy the screw-on attachment to turn a 2-liter bottle into a waterer like this one?

Or, if you know they don't work, let me know. We just built an A-frame chicken tractor, and wanted to be able to change the water from the outside.

Thanks!

I have some of these. Interesting enough, a local store carries them, but you can probably find them on Ebay or on some of the pheasant dog or pigeon sites.

Mine don't screw on. They are the exact same ones pictured above. They just sorta slide in there. I haven't had any real issues. Just a couple notes:
1. they work best when supported from the bottom (see how it sits on the black board?). This usually means they are down, near the ground and that leads to dirt n debris getting kicked in to the waterer (I ended up supporting mine with a 6 inch board to keep em off the ground n a little cleaner).
2. you will splash n spill a little water as you turn the bottle over and as you attach the bottle to the cage
3. you'll need a toothbrush to clean them out, whereas a squirt from the hose can often times clean out the the larger waterers

You can probably make something very similar with some PVC fittings.

The tube helps release the air from the bottle yet also fill the bottle without water spilling all over the place from a hole.

BRILLIANT!!! I've been trying to figure out how to hook up poultry nipples... Think I'll just use that for the chicks and outside the coop, and do this inside! See if they can manage to get THAT tipped over!!!

I got a plastic tray that goes under potted plants about 3 inches larger then a 5 gallon paint bucket drilled a quarter Inch hole about half an inch from the bottom. Last 7 chickens about 3 weeks. And cost less then $2. I'll get some pictures tomorrow.

Just found a source: http://www.efowl.com/Pop_Bottle_Waterer_with_Attachment_Spring_p/6508.htm. Description is "With any old pop bottle, whether it be an old fashioned snap bottle or a screw on 12 or 16 oz. bottle, you can screw on the plastic poultry waterer base. The base will fit through any one inch square opening to create an adequate water supply for chickens and other poultry." I notice it specifically does not mention a 2-liter bottle.
