2 many roosters in the hen house.

Alas, nothing ever goes my way. Only one week after the rooster going to his new home… the lady messaged me saying he had an eye infection and it was swollen shut and that I needed to come get him. Apparently she isn’t going to treat it.
The problem is that i cant bring him back. That was the whole reason I rehomed him. Why do I have the worst luck?

Might rather be that he was pecked in the eye by one of her own chickens as newcomers often get pecked at first.

It is up to her now if she wants to treat him or just cull.

The nerve to call you after two weeks of being the new owner... 🙄

Do you think theres a chance it might heal on its own? Especially if its just a scratch. Hopefully not Mycoplasma or something he contracted from her chickens.

Looks like he's been beaten up by another rooster instead of this being respiratory illness.

The eye looks to have pus in it. Flush the eye with saline, push the pus out of the eye, then put the Terramycin in the eye. Clean the eye and apply your ointment 2X a day, cleaning out pus as needed.

It kinda pisses me off that she just let him loose, first day. “Fight it out, young roo”. She should know there needs to be an adjustment, especially having that many chickens. 🤦🏼‍♀️😡
I agree, what was she thinking. Bad new owner! Sorry this happened. What are you going to do now?

I'm very sad today. I had to re-home my 7 month old roo that I hatched from egg. The problem was, I already had a 19 month old rooster from a prior hatch. Hatched him from egg too and he was the dominant one (obviously). I only have 6 hens and I cannot free range due to predators. I have a rollable coop so they get fresh ground daily. The dominant roo would not allow the younger one to crow, would not let him mate the hens and would never let him partake in the scraps I would put out. As of recent, he began chasing him around the coop to where he had to perch 90% of the day. I found a lady 3 miles from me that had a free range flock of 150 chickens and only 5 roosters, so she took him in. As soon as I dropped him off, he started battling it out with one of her roosters. I feel so bad for having to give him away, but I thought it was what was best for my flock. Opinions? Can someone make me feel better?
He's in rooster heaven with that many hens!
