Hi byc! I'm Rob from new zealand- just starting a flock with a couple Orpingtons and barred rocks.

I recently picked up 2 barred rocks from a breeder that had not sexed them- so I've been trying to work it out myself! Can anyone try sex these?

I'm resonably sure they're pullets on account of the coat- but really can't be certain.

Look forward to joining the conversation and helping others down the line as i get more experienced!

Regards,
Rob

Are they pure Barred Rocks? I ask because their legs are the wrong color. BR's here at least, have yellow legs (males) and dark wash over the yellow (females).

Females generally have dark Black barring, while males have lighter bars more grayish.

I was told they were purebred but do have some skepticism, and hence what made it so hard to sex them.

They're well natured and docile, but aside from physical characteristics I couldn't really tell.

Great birds.

With the gray legs, they look like how my dominique did at 2 months. They look a lot like barred rocks, but have rose combs and the gray leg color. (Barred rocks were originally bred from dominiques.)

Thanks for all the responses! Can't wait to contribute as my flock matures and I get more experienced!

I'll keep everyone updated on how the girls develop. Lovely birds, already so much personality
