I have an egg due to hatch on the 12th. I have been having a few problems with my eggs lately and wanted to candle them before I go into lockdown. When I candled this one I noticed that it is really dark in there, which is good but, there did not seem to be any movement and it looks really liquidy in there. When I gently roll the egg to candle it, everything follows. It does not seem to be stationary anywhere. I wonder if this peep may have died and if so how long can I wait? It is not oozing and does not smell bad yet.

The next question and I am pretty sure I have already answered this for myself. I have 2 duck eggs that I think have blood rings. Laying on their sides, being candled you can see a bright red circle around the embryo there is no movement and no veins inside the circle, except the one that is attached to the embryo (which again is not moving) the eggs were laid on the 29th and 30th of last month. I would think that I should be able to see some movement and an eye by now but no. So did I loose these little guys?

Thoughts? Input? Please

If they dont stink, it should be ok. I had ones that were obviously not alive in there the whole time (28 days for turkey eggs too!) and none ever started to stink. I even took some bad ones out and put them in a basket on the outside stairs to be thrown out and they were overlooked they sat there for a couple weeks before they were thrown out. So like 40 days? When you need to worry is if there are tiny cracks in the shell, then they need to go now or they will start to ooze. When you candle you should be able to see them. I am hesitant to throw any eggs out unless I am 100% sure that they are not developing. So most stay in until day 23 or 24 for chicken eggs. And I have never had any explode. In fact, the ones that sat out for 40+ days didnt even break when they hit the ground when I threw them into the cornfield.
