They have been here for about a month. We are feeding them 'chicken scratch' (recommended by feed store) and raw vegetable scraps and fresh diced apples.......now one of them has laid an egg in our flower bed .....? We are not sure if there is something we need to be doing for them ? Any advice you have would be greatly appreciated....

Welcome to BYC! I guess I would go get some gamebird crumbles and/or gamebird seed and some oyster shell and fill some bowls for them. I'm not sure about this, but you might want to place their food and water away from the nest so they feel like it's their own little secret, safe place. Make sense?

I wonder if you have tried to find the owners of these peahens?
Pea owners usually get very attached, and someone may be missing these gals.
You might make some calls to animal control, wildlife rescues, feed stores, and see if anyone has been in search of their lost peas...

I had a pair to show up at my house and i call around and no one knew anything about them so i built a barn and put them in it and they were home then,

Thank you so much for your replies. I have contacted the local feed store and bought some grain scratch as per their recommendation. I will definitely get some oyster shell as you suggest.

If there has been no definite signs of a male , the eggs will most likely not be fertile, correct? How long willshe continue to sit on the unfertilized eggs? What should I do with the one egg she is ignoring?
Again, thank you so much for the information....

Score! haha
I had a neighbor that was hoarding farm animals in his back yard. Oftentimes he would just throw male birds over the fence because he didn't want them. Then there would be cases where some of his birds would just 'get out' of their pins. There would be hundreds of quail roaming the neighborhood, getting killed by dogs.
I have aquired chickens, quail, turkeys, and a muscovy duck from them just roaming into my yard and never leaving. I figured if he wanted them back, he'd come looking for them, which he hasn't ever done.

If your peahens were missed, someone would be looking for them. Very kind of you to take care of them. The eggs are probably not fertile.

Thank you Sweet T for your kind reply. Since the eggs are most likely not fertile, at what point should we remove the eggs? Or just wait for her to quit sitting on them?

Not to harp on it but...
If you don't call animal control, humane society, wildlife rescue, etc., then you won't know if someone is looking for them.

Sorry, I only mention this because of my own unpleasant experience.
I recently had by best boy peanapped and was desperately looking for him.
The only reason I found him is because the nice lady whose house he showed up at was persistent about calling around and looking for his owner.
I feel very fortunate!
