We used 2x4s, put the wire on the wood of the coop, placed the 2x4 over the wire and nailed it all together with framing nails... so far so good.

Once had a racoon pull the head off of one of my pet hens...reached in through chain link. She was tame and would go to any outstretched "hand". This one was not kind.

Now reinforce the bottom of my large pen with smaller wire and the bottom of another smaller chain link pen with 2' high metal roofing. All the chickens go in their houses at night. Better to prepare ahead than deal with the catastrophes.
