2 Questions - Are these Right for Us & Rooster Help.!

Actually, my aunt, who lives at Northway (near Tok, if you want to find it on a map -- closer to the border), did have Turkens at her place for a while, and I guess they did fine. I know she didn't have heat for her chickens, as their electricity is, and has always been, from a generator.

If you are at Wasilla, you could probably get away with rose-combed Leghorns. In the Interior, I really wouldn't recommend them because of their small body size.

Have you considered Delawares? My Pet Chicken offers them and they are a great breed. You could replace the Leghorn that you wanted to get, they are a predominately white bird as well. However, Delawares do lay a brown egg.

My Delawares are my favorite bird. Super sweet and curious, never aggressive and they are considered a dual purpose breed. They'd be okay in the chillier climates I'm sure.

I haven't had a Delaware roo (yet) but I've heard their dispositions are amazing. Many will swear by them as being one of the most docile and protective of their girls. I'm hatching Dell eggs soon and crossing my fingers at getting a good roo out of the mix.

Good luck!

OMGosh you guys just totally confused me!

Now I am going over all the breeds again. LOL

One more thing.

Is there a Dual-Purpose bird, that would do good in AK, that lays frequently (4+ p/wk), and lays LARGE WHITE eggs. I am having a Heck of a time finding any such breed.

Ok, finally! I narrowed everything down to the following Hens:
2 Australorps
2 Easter Eggers
2 Marans
2 Stars
2 Wyandottes
2 Welsummers
2 Delawares

And 1 Marans Roo.!!!

How's that?
