when can i fed treats to my chicks? and what is the est grit i dont want to buy any we have a volley ball pit with sand like from the beach in it would that work?

We started giving grit~ie construction sand(no calcium, not treated and not too fine) at about 2 weeks old
they must have grit to have treats...we first started by sprinkling it on their food.. now I just throw it in their bedding, they love to scratch for it..
we started giving treats right after that..ours are 3 1/2 weeks old now and yesterday they got rice, steel cut oats, flaxseed, wheat germ
the day before they got apples, yogurt, sweet potato fries and frozen dark cherries..

they LOVE yogurt! when I introduced it at 2 weeks they did not like it so much! now they love it...

have fun! it is so enjoyable to sit and watch them run around and enjoy treats.

they grow SO fast!!

I give my chicks plain yogart before they have grit, but everything else comes after. I don't like to over treat my chicks, but the treat I DO give
are
-mealworms YUMMY! I get these at PetSmart and they are a favorite
-yogurt
-grapes, shopped up
-mashed egg yolk

Have fun with your babies!
