2 Roosters Need Homes - Alvin, Tx

Yep it isn't worth wasting the gas money for that! My wife and I would agree, we feed all of our eggs back to our dogs for the service they provide the hens here. I know many don't agree with our feelings.

edit--my chicken are all service animals until they aren't as all of my roos became useless once they hit puberty, began to harass my sweet girls or attack me.

Our dog has eaten a few eggs because she found where a hen had been laying. Haha my dog ate them all! She does a great job protecting from bobcats though. She doesn’t save them from hawks though because she doesn’t attack bird... every bird is a chicken to her.

The only roo I’ve had attempt to fight me was Pidgey, the RIR. I had a chick out and he went to attack her because she wasn’t apart of the flock (lived inside). I went to save the chick and he acted like he was going to jump at me but backed down once he sized me up. Haha such personality!

Just keep me in mind because an 8.5 pound protective RIR roo might be interesting to me if he is well acclimatized to human contact as I have no breeding in place currently. And would be willing to meet you in Corpus for a hand off in 1 weeks time if you find no better offers, just be advised I am surrounded by neighbors with american GameFowl so he needs to be a scrappy type of roo or he will be killed by neighboring cocks fortunately he will have a weight advantage over them as they are usually in the 6 pound range.

The dogs usually permit no foreign livestock on the property but they aren't on duty 24x7 they have a union.

I’ll definitely keep you in mind. We would be able to meet not next week but the week after. My husband works 8 days straight before he gets days off.

The RIR, Pidgey, will fight anything that he hasn’t deemed his flock. The dog, the neighbor’s dog, anything. He doesn’t like to be touched but will eat out of your hand. We feed them treats at the back door and he will even stand in the door opening.

He jumps very high, too. He jumps into our roof sometimes. We found out he has been going to the next door neighbors backyard to steal their dog’s food but always comes back.

I could tell stories about my eldest dog and how she knew how to run off bobcats without catching them in north Texas when we lived in Wise County. But I have told those stories here in the forums too many times.

He sounds like a real hoot to have around, please keep me in mind and message me for text/e-mail contact information I am willing to add a roo to our flock. And willing to drive 2 hours to meet you if you get no better offers. I can promise we won;t be eating him, but can not promise you nature will not take him especially in winter down here with all of our raptors!

Pidgey is a fast one. In order for me to catch him. I have to have the dog pin him down. She never hurts them just makes him lay on the ground until I can catch up. If he fights back my dog will immediately back down and just sit. Pidgey’s got her trained!

He’s done well with the cold weather. And is always able to escape the hawks and owls. His pretty much like ‘I’m the best there is! Just try me.’ kind of guy.

Lol I am lazy and just wait until sunset if I ever need to catch a bird. I figured out I am just too old to be chasing and catching them.

Sure my dogs can be told to assist but it still requires too much activity on my part to close the deal!

HEritage breeds are like that as well they totally avoid all predation during daylight hours!
