Okay so I knew for a while that the Cornish x was a rooster, I even thought I heard him crow. But little did I know it was one of my 2 buff silkies that was crowing the whole time, I actually witnessed him to it the first time the other night and again saw him tonight! I know both Silkies and Cornish Xs are a little bit different than standards to raise and house, manage. Especially roosters I was worried about Kurt (Cornish X) trying to mate with the hens but just saw today Chippie (Silkie—Call has Chip now ‍♀️) buying at one of the oldest hens (who I have always considered the “lead hen” if that truly exists).

I know I am going to have to separate Kurt unfortunately (thought I was buying a white leghor) so he has his own home, but seperate the Silkie rooster also ?

He just crowed lol

But mating-wise is more if my concern ... what do you do when you have a 2 (but mainly 1) rooster that you don’t want to mate with / fertilize eggs. Honestly I have no idea how that all wotrks although I should but I’ve had too many questions about this and that and the other chicken thing that I can’t keep track of them all!

I have 10 hens- 1 rooster Silkie and 1 Cornish x Rooster (he was unexpected and a long story but doing well ) i have
(5) 9wk olds - (1) GLW?/sex unknown 1 GLW? NOT SURE ,,,1 Americauna/sex unknown, (Americauna?EE/Hen, (1) ISA Brown ‘/Hen
(5)10wk olds—(Silkie/rooster, Silkie hen, Cornish X/Rooster,2 Sapphire Gem/Hens, 1 White Leghorn m/hen
(1) 11wk old ( ISA Brown hen.)

I have them together now in a decent sized coop/cage I made but Kurt (The Cornish x is getting separated this weekend. But My questions are :

Will the Silkie rooster try to mate with the hens and if so what happens next? Basically I don’t know how chicken mating works if there is a baby chick inside of an egg, what part does the rooster play in this ?

* Also can Silkies mate with other breeds ?

Yes, chickens can mate with other breeds.

If/when a cockrell/cock mates with a pullet/hen nothing really happens as far as a chick goes ...

Once the female is mated, she stores the sperms for awhile, and puts some in each egg, which is then fertilized ... in order for a Chick to start to form in the egg, it has to be incubated ... kept heated to about 99-100 degrees ... if temp is maintained for 21 days ... then you get a chick ...

If you don't want chicks, collect the eggs and eat them ... if you only want eggs from a certain female, collect those, and either incubate them, or if you have a broody pullet/hen ... let her sit on them.
