1. I would NEVER had noticed this if one of the hens hadn't stepped in the poo and broke it open..looked completely normal as I had JUST cleaned the shelf off so it was new poo that looked normal to me...then one of them stepped in it and low and behold but there was a little red right inside of the middle of the poo....blood??? Is ANY blood normal?? I wouldnt' have ever seen it had they not stepped on it...they have been laying (not all of them are laying yet) for 2 weeks....

2. We have all Buff Orps...one of them that "looks" completely healthy which I am learning isn't always the case that they are healthy...I noticed last night around her eyes / ears she has a blue tinge...never saw this before on her...noone else has it...do I need to be worried? Could this be some kind of infection starting? It looked this morning just the same...no worse.

Thanks everyone!

I do not know what the blue tinge means, posting a photo might help.

Blood in feces is not normal, but what you may have seen was red undigested food (tomato, apple skin, strawberry, plum, ect). Bright red blood is undigested, fresh blood- usually on the outside of feces. Hiding in the middle sounds more like something she ate. If you want to know more, confine her away from her buddies- offer only her lay ration- and watch her poops for a day or so. Does she have access to table scraps, true free range around the garden, ect? Do you have red fruit around?

well i have given them cherry tomatoes..but that was more than a few days ago because the last treat they had was lettuce..but maybe that was it???

I will take a pic of our little blue face tonight...I sure hope its nothing but if its something I need to worry i'd rather know sooner than later....
