I’m concerned for my 2 week old salmon favorelle. She suffered a foot injury at 3 days old but seems to be doing fine. I briefly separated her from 2 other chicks and momma hen because if the injury and she is almost half their size but she seems fiesty and way happier with her family. Now to the question. I have left the foot alone for the last few days but when reading an article about Bumblefoot they say to remove black scabs. This chick also has pasty butt. So while cleaning her butt I was able to pick off a black scab and. The skin under looked great! Now to the bottom of her foot.. I very carefully removed the pad scab and soaked in Epsom salt before and after. I also bought vetricyn spray and sprayed it throughly. Initially one spot was bloody but made sure it stopped before putting back in pen. No pecking from others noted but I’m so worried her having an open sore. This ordeal was very stressful for her (and me) and I want to give her time to recoup. I’ve read to spray w vetricyn 3-4 times a day but because she is in a big water trough I’m always grabbing from the top and they are all scared of me. Keeping the coop clean and it’s pretty dry because I use a nipple waterer. Was I correct to remove this scab? I feel like I’ve opened her up to a world of infection. Also after her injury she is walking fine but 2 of her nails are black at the quick. Can be seen in photo. Looks like my pinky nail. Any tips? Should I do anything special? Continue with Epsom salts? Also should I not give any egg yoke treats with pasty butt?
