2 Week Old Chantecler Chick Panting Heavily

Hi - I am new to this forum but have been reading lots. I have a 2 week old chick that was absolutely fine this morning and now panting heavily and lying down. Doesn't even run away when I pick him/her up There are 10 altogether - i hatched them here from our own eggs. Bedding is paper towel over newspaper. Water changed daily - brooder temp 90 no drafts, no temp changes. Feeding organic 19% starter mash other 9 chicks look fine but now i am scared. I don't handle them unless I have to (always clean hands) and I don't let others handle them either. Any thoughts? Help please!

I don't know - this is my first time raising chicks, but I have a few thoughts. 1) Have you seen it drink lately? 2) Have you tried to give it water or Nutridrench via dropper?

I fed it some water with an eye dropper as it doesn't seem to have enough energy to do anything but lie and pant..... The chick did take the water and actually finished the whole eye dropper full but isn't seeking food or water on it's own. I did see it poop which seems like a good sign - the droppings looked normal anyway.

You're welcome. I just had a chick die despite trying so hard to save her and I know how worrisome it is. Lots of hope for yours!

Sounds like it's way to hot. I'd try to raise the heat lamp some. Make sure it drinks some water.

Yeah you would think so the ways its acting but the other 9 are fine.... plus there is quite a bit of space to move away from the heat lamp. I have been giving water by eyedropper but the poor thing just keeps getting droopier

Maybe it has a bug, I guess some infections can be already in them when they are bought
I'd seperate it keep it in the house with you keep drop feeding water and ring the vets for
Chicken antibiotics if there is such a thing
You need to be sure the others don't get poorly

You should really reconsider raising the heat lamp. 90-95 is the recommended temperature for newly hatched-week old chicks. Chentechlers are a
Canadian breed, meaning they are better suited for handling cold temperatures than hot.

That heat will kill your chickies faster than the chill will....
